To me, one of the most interesting moment of Venice Architecture Biennale was the 3 days long marathon interviews by Hand Ulrich Obrist. He basically interviewed all the Biennale participants. The dialogue were taking place in the middle of the main exhibition hall, the Giardini, were a t.v studio was set up. So the crowd was watching all the interviews both live and on lcd screen. Between an installation and a press check-point, a media monster.

Now on view at The New Museum , in New York city until June 15 2008, a beautiful and very refreshing exhibition about the work of the japanese architecture studio SANAA. An interesting detail is that the radical and minimalistic New Museumhas been designed by SANAA. Located on Bowery , this building shows that there are possible alternative to condos in high density urban context, in terms of contemporary architectural design.

The exhibition shows a lots of models, full of details and creativity. It's about lights, flowers, simple geometries and complex programs. At the opposite of 3D rendering exhibitions that we are used to see nowdays.

You see these blown up rubber rats from time to time in Manhattan. These rodants are set on the street by various union workers to make the passersby aware that either illegal or unsafe labor practices are being conducted in the area. These rats usually have sign attached to them that say "Shame on You" and then a few details about what's going on.

The Norway authorities just open a vault to store and protect thousand boxes of seed.
With plant species disappearing at en alarming rate, scientists are creating a global network of plant banks to store seeds and sprouts, precious genetic resources that may be needed for man to adapt the world's supply to climate change.

Norway first proposed building what it called a "Noah's Ark" for the world's seeds in June 2005, and started construction a year later, blasting a nearly 400-foot tunnel into a frozen mountain and placing the vault for foil-wrapped seeds deep inside. Each sample holds about 500 seeds.

Over the next two months, powerful cooling units will bring its temperature down to the target of about zero degrees from the current 23 degrees.

"The seed vault is the perfect place for keeping seeds safe for centuries," said Cary Fowler, Executive Director of the Rome-based Global Crop Diversity Trust, a project partner. "At these temperatures, seeds for important crops like wheat, barley and peas can last for up to 1,000 years."

A new docu-blockbuster for architects is out now.
It's call BIRD’S NEST - HERZOG & DE MEURON IN CHINA, Featuring of course Herzog & De Meuron , and more characters like the chinese conceptual artist, curator, architect and journalist Ai WeiWei .

Its a film by Christoph Schaub and Michael Schindhelm, two swiss director.

Among the website, " it's shows how the Chinese culture affects the construction work of the architects: The specific architectonic form and the struggle to achieve it give us information about the society, the culture and everyday life in China. The film explores how these prestige buildings are being built in China. On the one hand, the documentary attempts to understand the two architects’ very own method of contextual building applied successfully again and again. On the other hand, it explores the Chinese side: their intentions, their expectations, and their strategies in this complex creation process.".

Who remenber "Everything that rises Must coverges" by Sarah Sze in 1999 at Fondation Cartier, Paris ? I have to say i still have a strong souvenir of those arial undefined and precious clouds floating in the middle of Nouvel's space. It's, for me, the best show at Cartier until today. Fragile and strong, luminous and dark.
She is an american artist living and working in New York City.

Sze’s sculptures are flowing structures consisting of a conglomeration of small-scale household items that respond to and infiltrate the surrounding architecture. Like the information flow of the World Wide Web, her compositional language takes form by successively linking small bits of discrete information into a complex network. With an intensity born of a laborious patchwork technique that is at once painterly and sculptural, the interplay between individual components and overall structure allows Sze to explore the boundaries between art and everyday life.
One of my friend ( from fondation Cartier ! ) asked me what sze was working on recently. Checking her website www.sarahsze.com , i was not surprised to find some new amazing pieces.

For those who are in Paris, i warmly recommend you this show, at the Daniel Templon art gallery, impasse Beaubourg. Jonathan Meese is showing some new paintings and sculptures . Most of the painting are portraits of dictators, officers or famous aristocrats, authocratic figures of our society. Is Jonathan Meese becoming an autocratic figure of the art world ?

Also, Meese was doing a performance for the opening of the show,at the Goethe institute, Paris. It's amazing to see how close the paintings and the performance are, pictorially speaking. Great moment !
